Default Crazy idea: Pickup truck step bumper on a JK?

I'm always lookin for unusual ideas for fabrication. My latest is to mount an old school truck step bumper on my JKU (painted black to match). Of course I would either maintain the factory receiver hitch -OR- retrofit a frame rail mount receiver hitch to add extra reinforcement to the frame to accommodate a receiver mounted winch....

Hmmm.....

Thoughts?

It sounds like a neat idea and should give you plenty of protection as well as a functional step if you get your mounts correct. The width may be an issue so you may end up cutting the bumper down or going with a narrower truck. The hitch would be nicely tucked behind the 'standard' license plate mount area on the step bumper.

Be different, be yourself- don't let the internet scare you away from your unique ideas.

My thoughts exactly. Finding a step bumper from say an older B2300, Taco or S-10 is what I was thinking. Welding up some new brackets wouldn't be too difficult and if I need to narrow the bumper I can cut out a bit from the center and weld the two halves back together. That way I'll keep the ends of the bumper looking original.
