Cooper Discovery S/T Maxx 255/80/17 Impressions
Just got these installed last night and thought I'd share some info.
I was surprised by the weight of these tires. Only weight I could find online was 51 lbs but in reality they are 58 lbs verified on two scales at work. My stock GY SR-A's were 32 lbs worn down to 3/32's. that's a big increase!
My local tire shop recommended 60 psi or more but after lowering to 45, it has much better manners. I'm gonna do the chalk test and see how low I can go with even wear. I've seen some people saying 30-35 was best.
Very Quiet, barely more noise that stock SR-A's. slight rumble when slowing down at low speeds.
I would say 5% less acceleration but not bad at all with a manual.
When speedo says 60, gps says 61-62
I did notice its considerably more rolly or squishy side to side when doing evasive steering, but surprisingly it got a lot better with lowering the psi? I figured that would make it even worse.
I gained 3/4 - 1 " because my stockers were so worn.

I ran that exact tire on my 2013 for 45k miles at 35psi, I traded the Jeep for a new Rubi and when these BFG MTs wear out I will be getting another set in the same size. Its a fantastic tire. Your going to love them.

To piggy back on Copyguys's post, he clawed up everything I did with those tires and I have MT's. Slick clay, rocks, you name it. And they are quiet like a street tire.

I think my mpg will suffer from the 22 extra pounds over stock but I like the extra toughness and capability of these. I didn't want to go bigger than 33's because I don't want to spend booko bucks on regearing and I need to tow 2500 lbs through Colorado every year. I already have to put it in 2nd gear in a few spots on the highway to maintain 50 mph!
