Do you have to have long arms to get that sort or travel? On the stands with the wheels off, my axle only drops about 1/2" past my Bilsteins and I think they have 9" of travel (3" lift).

Long arms won't increase your travel, they will just keep things more under control under the rig.

Almost got it, long arm kits make for a better on-road ride and a more control off-road at high speeds. The JK however does not need them as the stock arms are not short. More like medium arms. The ride is improved because the travel arc is elongated which makes the suspension "think" bumps are smaller. Off-road in some cases long arms get In the way and are a detriment to performance (like coming off or going up a steep rock ledge when the arms hit the rocks).
