Ok, here's another question: What about a replacement K&N filter? The one that goes in the factory air filter box? Worth it or also a waste?

That's a lot more worth your money than CAI. Not so much for performance gains but for the fact that you don't have to replace it

I had a CAI and ditched it for a snorkel: I'm very happy about it.

I ucrrently run a stock filter and plan on getting a K&N so that I can wash it since I live in the desert (dusty). I may Just get the RR pre filter...not sure yet.

On my current rig I have the AEV snorkel and a K&N filter. I run the filter because, like kh said, it will save money in the long run.

So it seems that the consensus is that a CAI isn't worth it, and that a snorkel does more to get air to the engine and maybe improve performance.

No, a snorkle does not increase performance or air flow, it increases the protection from hydrolocking and generally pulls cleaner air from up higher if you are in dusty areas.
