Default Cheap 1/2 door idea ?

I haven't been around much in the last 6 months, so I'm not sure if anyone else has thought of this or not. I did a search but couldn't find anything even close.

I was wondering who has bought the Bestop Element doors, and then added the steel enclosure kit?

I ask this because I wonder how easy it would be just to buy the $100 door enclosure kit, and go to a hardware store to find parts needed to fab up a cheap door handle and hinges? It seems that it would be fairly straight forward and you'd end up with a paintable steel 1/2 door setup for about $150 for a 2 door and 300$ for a 4 door

THe element doors themselves are pretty inexpensive, as are the enclosures. Why not just do it right?

your challenge will be latching as well as rigging something to stop the doors from slamming intot he jeep.

$1000 for the 4 door and thats without uppers and they are not very weather resistant. I would rather go with the Bestop soft doors.

I agree that they are not 'TOO' expensive if built up right....but $1000 is a heck of a lot more than $300. I don't think the latch would be too hard to come up with, and the door restraint would be even easier

I too have considered just buying the soft 1/2 doors but even they are fairly pricey, and I could never paint them to come close to my blue

You would need to give it some structure. It's thin metal and there is no place to mount anything to it. AS far as latches, I would say anything you came up with would be as good if not better than Bestops.
