Default Center wear Nitto Trail Grapplers

Hello Folks,

I'm trying to figure out what's cause center wear on my Nitto 35x12.50R17 trail grapplers on stock rims. I have been running 26PSI in the tires for over 2 years with aprox 10K on them. This is why im confused. I called Nitto and the rep asked for some info such as: Make/modle and original tire size, he placed me on hold for 8 minutes and did some calculations and told me the tires need to be at 35PSI. I was so dumbfounded! Wouldn't this cause more center wear I said, he said no. Because the tire is an aggressive tire and the Jeep JK 2 door is light this is the correct PSI for the load weight of the tire. So i did more research I found a page that said sometime when you have a wide tire and narrower rim that could lead to center wear. Anybody else experience this issue or have any advice on what could be causing the issue? Thanks for the support!

Stock rims are too narrow for a 12.5 wide tires. Makes the center bulge as you've now noticed. Lower pressure a little more and do a chalk test

That's what I thinking! Do you have an idea what's the safest PSI for highway driving just in cause I have to air down past my original 26PSI?

I run 35's on my jkur at 28 lbs. The tires are wearing pretty good. Have you done the ink test? Ink your tires and drive over butcher paper. The footprint will tell you if you are over inflated. I do have aftermarket wheels. 17x9

I see in your photo your not running stock wheels, how wide are your wheels compared to stock?

I think an 1.5" wider. Stock is 17x7.5 if I recall

I am correcting my wheel width. They are 17x8. .5" wider than stock.

Default i have 33s but 16 x 8.5 i believe

i have 26,000 miles and wearing perfect no lumps or bumps at 30 psi chalk tested. i would think adding air will cause more center wear . They had 80 psi when i recived them from dtd lol. but its prob a shipping reason only id hope.

I would drop it to 25 psi and do a chalk test. That is an E rated tire made for heavier vehicles, so lowering the pressure will improve the ride as well as give it a better contact patch with the road.

I'm going to perform a chalk test tomorrow. I'm just not sure what the lowest psi I can air down to for safe highway travle. Funny you mention 80psi, when I had my tires mounted at a local tire shop they aired them to 80psi also lol
