Default Can I swap axles from 2dr to 4dr

Hi All,
Would like some advice on this maybe crazy idea I have. Currently I own an 07 x 2DR with Auto trany and 4.10 gears. I want to purchase an as cheap as possible new 4dr X with Auto but realize I can only get the 3.73 gears. I want to put a small lift... probably 2.5" BB with 35's on it but don't think the 3.73s will push it well here in the northeast.

So here comes the crazy idea... could I simply swap the complete axle assemblies between the two vehicles?? Then I get the 4.10 gears on the 4dr which should push the bigger wheels.

Thanks for any help/thoughts!!

Assuming they are eqquiped the same (both have rear locker or both dont) it is a straight bolt-in swap. Its a lot of work though, why not just have the new one regeared or are you keeping both?

the answer is yes, but like it has been said that is a lot of work removing and mounting 4 axles.... and 4.10s with 35s isn't much better than 3.73s. Reagear to 4.88 or 5.13

unless you would be doing all the work yourself its not worth it, even if you do I still dont think its worth it.....and fyi the axles weigh about 300lbs each

Can't the gears themselves just be swapped?

BTW: I'm running 33s on 4.10s and it works. I won't go to 35s without regearing--though many have.

Thanks for all the replies. I will be keeping both Jeeps. As for moving them around, I do have a forklift and a very large shop to do the swap in. Well I've got a few more months to think it over. Jeep really needs to start offering taller gears as an option... or a big ass motor!!!

Thanks

I would regear that way you're all set if you change your mind later on

But you do what you want and 410 isn't bad if you get 35s but seen a guy with 488 and was sold
But I will be going 513 when I get the green light from the boss
