Great brainstorming here, thanks guys.

Thanks for the link as well.

Aha....... obviously I don't know the set up in detail...... take your point, as I prefer not to have the axle shafts in (saves me from removing them again) I will have ago at it tomorrow and revert back

Cheers,

Mark

I have a TJ that survived a day without the stub before the new bearing ate shit, so I understand the skepticism

I drove my JK with a completely empty front housing for a few months while deciding what to replace it with. No issues at all. Pull the shafts out and plug the holes with something to keep the gunk out.

Default Conclusion

Just to complete the thread

Took my axle shafts out, carrier and pinion. Closed it all up. Put the wheels back and it is running no problem at all without axle shafts, carrier and pinion

How was it to pull that hub from the knuckle? I put some anti-seize between the two metal mating surfaces to ensure they wouldn't rust and fuse together.

A little off topic but have you checked out c gussets? You're obviously running some decent weight on the jeep and intend to go explore about, I would hate to see a C get bent.

Hi Karls,

I used a hammer to pull it off the hub no problem at all, it has been off several times though. In my case there is no need to put any anti-seize in-between, just a little blow of the hammer takes them off.

I checked my C gussets, as far as I can see they are OK. should be as it is mostly mud I am dealing with, I tend not to 'fly' my JK. I used to fly my TJ in the sand dunes, C gussets still good though.

Cheers,
Mark
