Bump stops

Bump stops
I just installed the Teraflex sport rear upper control arms for 2.5-3” lift. I had to remove the rear bump stops to get the bolts out. I have flat fenders and 35” tires, do I need to put the bump stops back on?

That's a loaded question that is different for everyone. Highly likely, yes, you need em. Bump stop is 1) preventing tire from stuffing completely in to the pinch seam, or 2) preventing shock from complete compression....whichever comes first. So, depending on tires, shocks, lift heights....it changes, but yes....you probably need to stick those bad boyz back on. The technically proper answer is you need to cycle your suspension to determine proper amount of bump stop.

Thanks resharp001! I was so tired after putting on the rear upper fixed control arms for a 2.5-3” lift! Of course it was a bitch to get the holes lined up and I don’t have one of those rachiting straps. I used my hydraulic lift and kept on trying different places to lift to get the holes that needed to be screwed on to line up. On top of that when I did my front lower it was pretty simple, but when I realized that the bump stops needed to be removed so the bolts can be pulled out the axle side brackets I thought great. The two little bolts and nuts per bump stop are a extreme pain in the butt to get to and there.is very little room for tools. I had to hold the nut with a plier clamp and then with a 15 open ended wrench loosen the bolt with 2 inch turns. You’re right! I’ll put them on in the morning.

Y, those rear bump stop bolts suck due to clearance. That is one place that the most useless air tool, an air ratchet, actually comes in handy! That or ratcheting box wrench. It does stink you have to remove the bump stop to get to the upper control arm bolt. Keep in mind for next time.....either floor jack under the diff or floor jack under the pinion (depending on which way you need to roll the axle) will making lining up those holes much easier.
