Default bump stop length

When companies describe bump stop length, is that total length, or spacer length.
For example, RK's site lists 3" recommended stops for the long travel 5100s I plan on getting. Is that 3 inch spacer? Or will my teraflex 2.75" spacer with original stops plugged in there suffice? Really don't want to blow out a new set of shocks. I sent RK a message, haven't heard back from them.
Thanks for any info.

Imo they shouldn't reccomend a bump stomp. To many variables they do not know on each rig. Tires, fenders and some other thing all can affect bumps. Yours may be fine. Best to do is set bumps to just keep your wheels pit of your fender.

That would assume you didn't do it the proper way and got shocks that aren't optimal for your set up but yes you dont want to bottom out your shock either.

When they say 3", they mean 3" additional with the stock jounce bump. You will likely be fine with the 2.75's you currently have.
