OK so some ppl have been asking about breather extention kits and about the auto transmission...... Now I have a river raider kit which I'm sure is the same as any other manufacturers products....a lot of ppl on here just goto their local hardware store and pick up hoses and connectors, I just bought a kit.... It was easier for me lol.... . I searched all over on Google for where the automatic transmission breather is but couldn't find it...... So someone was asking about this on another thread so I went and double checked.....Today I took all these pics and I went as far as calling my local dealer to find out where, if there even is one, where the automatic transmission breather is....... Needless to say, like most ppl on here say they said there is NO breather hose on the auto.... Just the manual.... That being said, I wrote this write up and low and behold someone with an 09 speaks out with photos!The AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BREATHER IS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRANNY! This being said the breather extention kit is something that is very easy to install and very important to have if u plan on fording water.

REMEMBER THIS IS HOW I INSTALLED THE RIVER RAIDER KIT! (Most kits will be the same, but this is not a home depot parts job)




If ur not using a pre-made kit u will need

1-1/2" rubber hose (long enough to go from front bumper of to rear bumper, then add a foot to be safe)

1-1/4" rubber hose (this don't need to be as long but u will need a good amount of this to link breathers to main air line up installed(1/2"hose))

3- "T" fitting (2-1/2" sides with 1/4" bottom, 1-1/2" sides and bottom) or just run each breather individually to engine bay if u can't find these
a.) if u run individual lines for each breather then all u need is a lot of 1/4" line and locate breathers and just replace each one with longer hose to engine bay

1- 90° fitting (1/2" to 1/4")

Zip ties, thread locker ( if u have a kit)

1.) Open ur hood and locate ur air box (where ur air filter is)
a.) you will see a two rubber hoses coming out of this, one is a few inches in diameter and the other, smaller than an inch.









2.) The small hose goes to the valve cover, cut thru it about 3" away from where it connects to the valve cover
a.) Add a "T" fitting here











3.) Feed the hose down behind the engine being sure to avoid MOVING & HOT parts
(I went down the drivers side of the engine)







4.) Run the long hose ( 1/2" dia) all the way to the rear of ur jeep avoiding all moving and hot parts again
(Keep the hose as close to the floor boards as u can)











5.) Next, it's actually time to locate ur breathers now. Me, I started up front and worked my way back
a.) Locate the front differential, if ur looking at the back of it (side where drive shaft connects) to the left u will see a small rubber hoses 1/4" dia, remove this hose COMPLETELY from ur jk
b.) Install YOUR 1/4" hose and run it back to your main air line (1/2" hose) cut both hoses (the 1/2" hose cut where u want the 1/4" hose to enter it, the 1/4" hose cut to an appropriate length to allow for full articulation of the front axle) install one of the "T" fittings and secure all connections


















6.) Locate your transmission breather.... It's on the upper passenger side of the auto trans (hard to get to but here it is)
a.) Remove the rubber hose and replace it with ur hose, and route it back to ur main air line ( 1/2" hose)
b.) Cut the main line and install the "T" fitting and connect hoses



7.) Locate your transfer case,this is in about the center of ur jk, if ur unsure, follow ur drive shafts from the differentials to the center of the vehicle, that's the transfer case. Next locate the transfer case breather, this is located on the top of the transfer case in the center of it. Sorry I could get a pic of it, it was just outta view of the camera but if u use the eyes on ur fingertips ull find it just fine
a.) Now that u located that hose, disconnect it and install your own 1/4" hose and run it to ur 1/2" hose and once again cut and install another "T" fitting here just like with the front differential







8.) Locate the rear differential, if ur looking at it from the rear of the vehicle the breather will be to the right of the differential. At this point u can cut the excess hose from ur 1/2" hose to clean it up since u won't need it all..... Now remove the 1/4" hose and install ur last 1/4" hose and run it back to your main air line ( 1 / 2 " hose) and install it with the 90° fitting.

I'm confused. Your dealer said that there is NO breather for the auto transmission? My '09 auto has a breather. It's hard to find and get to, but it's there.

EDIT: Here it is. Comes out of the upper passenger side of the auto trans.


.....aaaaaand, I guess the seal on my pan is leaking.

Guess I talked to the same know nothing tech that told me my tranny lines WEREN'T covered under my warranty.... I called back today and manager said he will replace both lines free! Great pic! Very clear ill install it tomorrow!

Sounds like a plan to me! I seen ur write up before and figured urs says manual and it looked like u did a diy write up I figured I'd do this one..... When I originally made this thread I called my local dealer (dumbass's) to ask about auto transmission breather..... They said there isn't one... Only manual tranny.... So then someone commented with a picture of the auto trans breather..... I still yet to go outside find it and extend it to my main breather line with this that I still have from river raider

 

So now everything runs from the the valve cover/air box breather huh?
I get why this is done, for deep mud, muck, or water fording and ive actually already extended my rear diff via home depot parts but its not tied into any other lines.
My question is where are the other stock breather hoses going before you replace them? Are they just not sealed (hanging up by the body) as opposed running and connecting them all to one dry source aka the valve cover/air box breather?
Also is the location for the transfer case on a rubi different? Thanks for the write up, did a nice job.

 

The front differential breather is right next to the drivers side front shock, the transfer case breather is behind the engine and honestly I don't know where the other end of the auto trans breather is, I just found where it came outta the tranny and connected it to my main line, this is done for just like u said, mud and deep water, the factory ones are good but doing this insures you will stay dry.... And as for the Rubi question, the pics above are of my 2010 JKU Rubicon.
