When was the last time you heard of an installer lapping the rear face of a ring gear or even checking the run-out after installation? Does the installer give you a written brake-in schedule? Since factory components go through a break-in at the factory people tend to discount the importance of proper break-in for upgrades.
Yes my installed gave me an instruction sheet on how i should break in my gears for the first 500 miles. If i remember correctly i was able to drive 20 miles and then needed to let the diff cool off for a bit, no hard acceleration, no towing for the first 1000 miles, and other stuff im forgetting.

Aren't most of these gear companies gears actually made in China ?

I just recently had Nitro 4.10 gears installed in my JK because Yukon doesn't make 4.10 gears apparently. I have a little over 500 miles on them, and can report that there is no howling or noise coming from the new gears. Just changed out the gear oil at 500 miles and all appears to be wearing normally. If my gears end up failing I will be sure to let everyone know. So far so good though. Most ring & pinion sets appear to be made in China unfortunately.

Contact pattern and backlash were spot on. Only had to add a small amount of shim to get the differential preload to factory specs. The gears run smooth and quiet. I'm very happy with them. I've read only good things about the strength of Yukon gears.
Are you talking about the "gear package" they offer? They don't mention a brand. Are they Yukon? I assumed they were Standard gears at that price. If they are Yukon seems like a good deal.

Depends on budget as always. Gears can go from like 260 to over a grand a set. Richmond gear makes very quality gears.

I installed Nitro gears in mine as well ... 4.56. All has been good and they've been in for around 10-15k miles.
My job was 50 miles from the house....all highway (avg speed limit 65). They told me about the break-in deal, but I didn't (couldn't) do it. I drove it like normal...50 miles one way trips at 65-70 mph.

Just had my Nitro gears (4:10's) installed today and I ask the guy that did it, who worked for TXDOT for 35 years as a mechanic about break in and he said drive it how you always drive it. He also put my 4:88's in my 08 and never had a problem. My bolt's for the gears came in the master install kit, so gears shouldn't have anything to do with the bolts breaking unless installed wrong.

While this goes against what most say, it strikes me as logical. Can't say I ever bought a new Jeep or car and on my way out they told me a break in procedure for the gears. So why is it different after a regear?!?!

Man I don't know! He put a set in a friend on mine about 2 months ago and the day after he went skiing in Colorado and has put about 4k on it since and no problems.

Anyone have more feedback on the gears they chose and how it turned out? I'm about to pull the trigger on the Nitro 5.13's gear package (front and rear), which comes with the KOYO master rebuild kit. Appears to be a great deal at $690 w/ free shipping, but I'm not looking to sacrifice quality for price.

FYI...2011 JKU, Auto on 34's. I'll be towing a camping trailer weighing in at 2500lbs uphill.
