I was wheeling this weekend and bumped a stump against my painted fender flares. Although I'm not hard core either, after this weekend, I'm ready for more protection (I have oem Rubicon rock rails and they are fine for the body but aren't hard core and offer zero flare protection). These appear to stick out far enough to offer some flare protection. I looked at the instructions on BAs site (and Quadratec) and both show that these are still frame mounted. The post above mentions body mounting and drilling. Anyone know what the deal is there? Here's a pic from BAs website; any idea what the silver bolts are through the pinch seams? Thanks.

There are a couple of body armor rock sliders. I can't remember the names of the two...but one requires drilling into the tub (which I'm not excited about) and the one you posted, which mounts up like the stock rubi rails. I'm currently saving up for the ones in the pic you posted...they look a LOT like the mopar enhanced rock rails...but are $200 cheaper!

The body armor rails are not frame mounted. The factory told me that they had issues when the originals were frame mounted...during flexing on the trail, the pinch seam would contact the rail support and crush the pinch seam since the body and frame flex differently. By body mounting them, they flex with the body and this is no longer an issue. Those silver bolts are for the lateral stiffening and then they also bolt underneath to the 3 mounting points for the OEM rails. I was skeptical as to their strength but after installing them I would have no problem jacking the vehicle from the rail if needed. Seriously though I'm not sure about running this Jeep on the trail if you're worried about the paint on the fenders because even going through tall brush you'll be likely to skuff the paint on the fenders and sides as well as the top (if its a hard top). The ability of any rail to protect the fenders is dubious at best...the fact that the tires stick out past the fenders is probably their best protection but there is no guaranty as you have found out already.

thanks for the feedback. i realize that i am going to have scuffs; i am participating in two Jamborees this year, and a number of local rallys. a couple guys did suggest some Spidertrax wheel spacers to get my tires out a little further; i may do that. one guy had a 4runner that had rocks rails with a clear bump at the end that were made to protect his flares; i cant find anything like that, as i guess more harder core guys remove the flares. on a four runner, that isn't possible. thanks for the feedback though; i appreciate it. as mentioned in my pm, any more pics would be appreciated.
