I agree about the compressors' electric motor.
The piston head(s) are a different story. The air filter gets plugged much faster by dirt/water/mud even on roads or easy trails. Placing it in the trunk area, keeps it much cleaner, and the cooling fins are more effective when clean.
For topless, I'd add a cover above the compressor, so the filter stays dry, and cold water can't hit a hot compressor piston head.
I don't run mud or ford deep water. I am building an external filtered air intake though.

The failed part was a temp sensor in one motor. Not associated with the environment, just a bad pair of contacts in the sealed sensor. ARB sent a replacement part to me while I was on the road to MOAB.

The cool thing about the twin was having the other half keep on working while I waited for the part.
I didn't think about this... if one head fails, the other one keeps pumping... That's yet another for a twin-head vs a single head.
