biggest tire you can...
hey guys new to the jeep world so sorry if i have lots of newbie questions...08 sahara 2 dr( will prob take silver bumper off if anyone is interested let me know)
I am looking to get a set of procomp 18 x 9 wheels and was wondering ifthe stock tires 255/70/18 would fit on that rim. According to the sales guys they will not fit on the new rims as the stock tires are for a 8.5 inch rim...is that .5 in really a big deal...
If i have to get new wheels they will probab be procomp AT or Extrem AT tires depending on budjet. What is the biggest tire i can fit on the jeep with stock suspension without rubbing or ill effects? I also use the jeep for snow plowing my properties nd everyday use so lifting it will not be good but i figure the biggest tire i can put on if i have to spend money on tires wouldbe the best route thanks
the sales guy recomemnded 285/60/18 which is (31.46 OD) (11.22 SW)
stock 255/70/18 (32.05 OD) (10.03 SW)
what about 275/65/18 (32.07 OD) (10.82 SW)
so the 285 is taller not wider? or is it the opposite? thanks

I have found that 33" x10.5 on stock wheels is OK without a lift. 33"x12.5 is OK on 4.7"or less back spaced wheels without a lift. The stock wheels have 6.7" of backspacing is why.
Heck some guys even put 35" tires on theirs in wait of a lift.......and report no problems with street driving.
If I am wrong, someone please correct me.......but this is what I have been told.
I hope this helps.

Yea, you're the one I was referring to in regards to the 35"'s . Nice job & can't wait to see it after the lift.

cool thanks for the replies... the stock front airdam is the plastic part below the actual bumper correct? i had to take that off anyway for the plow mount... sssmith do you think that if you did any offroad driving that it would touch... nothing crazy just some light offroad driving?
so that handling is good though huh?

I'm new to all of this as well.........but from what I can gather, you can do some moderate offroading with 33's but no more than a big speed bump with 35's without a lift.
