strap it to the hood, just remember you won't be able to put your windshield down,

just kidding, you could try spacers but i thought the stock spare carrier wasn't designed for anything larger than stock?

I wouldn't put anything bigger than a 33 on the tailgate. I have 33x11.5 and they are a snug fit.

If I go bigger I would get a swing away to spare the poor tailgate from that much weight.

there's a ton of people on here that have 35" spares on the factory tire carrier. yours won't fit because of the backspacing on your wheel more than likely. so, you could get a wheel spacer like people have already suggested or you could try flipping your spare around. some people have done that as well.

as far as the weight issue. most people are basing the tailgate weight concern with TJs. i've heard the JK tailgates and tire carriers are stronger but there's no proof of that. in the long run....who knows. only time will tell.

is there enough room that it would fit if you took the bumpers (the little rubber ones behind the tire) off of the tailgate and trimmed them down? i know others have done this when they installed new rear bumper/wheel carriers.

I run a 1"wheel spacer on the stock carrier with 35's and no problems. I will eventually get a new rear bumper/tire carrier though.

I have a spare 1" spacer I can sale you if you are interested. Just PM me.

Try some washers. I ran my 37 on the back for a while, but I have 3" backspacing on my wheels.
