Default Big Rotor Kit Help

Good Afternoon everyone,
A few years back I added the Teraflex Big Rotor Kit on my 08 JK Automatic. The time has come that I need new rotors in the front. Looking at teraflex's website the rotors are 116 dollars EACH. I wanted to know if there were some cheaper options before ordering from teraflex. They are the solid rotors (not cross drilled/slotted) The front rotors are vented 13.3 inches compared to the vented 11.9 that come stock with the jk. I also assume these are the same rotors that teraflex uses on their Big Brake Kit. Thanks everyone

Hi! you can check from extremeterrain.com or quadratec.com you've got a lot of options of good Brake rotors for a cheaper price and good quality.

The scenario you're currently faced with is exactly the reason I decided to go with the Mopar BBK instead of the Teraflex and Dynatrac options for that matter since the Mopar kit uses OEM parts and therefore there would be multiple aftermarket alternatives for the wear parts such as rotors and pads to choose from when that time came.

The Mopar kit uses Mopar P/N: 68040177AA

The Mopar BBK uses a 13in rotor. Will that ".3in" difference in diameter be that big of a difference that the Mopar rotors or other aftermarket alternative could be used in place of the TF rotors? Your guess is as good as mine, but it may be an option. There are Crown, Omix ADA, and APDTY 13in alternatives available.

I agree with Rednroll in that you shouldn't notice the slight decrease in diameter if you go with the Crown or Mopar rotors. That is what I would do. I feel your pain cuz I now have the TF rotors, and they are about the only ones that are compatible with the Spyntec hubs I have. I'm already dreading having to buy new ones at that price, and then bore em out for larger hub.

I am curious why new rotors are needed? warped or worn out? How many miles? I had around 60,000 miles on a set and they still looked good and still well within spec.

I'm also curious to this as well.

I have yet to move up to the big brake/rotor kit, need to, just working on a small budget and doing things a little at a time. But, that being said, my fronts (pads and rotors) are the factory originals from when I bought it new in 2013. They have 127,000 miles (60,000 of those with aftermarket 17in wheels and 35MTR Ks) on them, and as it is no longer my DD, if I don't go to a big brake/big rotor kit, I will likely never even get new pads. They're still like new.

Haven't actually measured them, but going by eyeball the pads still have close to a half in left on them.

I go through rear pads about every 30,000 - 40,000 miles. I'm guessing all the downshifting instead of brake riding has a lot to do with it, but idk?

Since OP hasn't responded back, I don't mind going on on a small tangent. I went with the Crown calipers and rotors and bought em on eBay for $350 delivered. I read a lot about fitment and some saying they had to shim the caliper brackets. I will say that the caliper is offset a tad more than I'd prefer, but there is no interference at all with the rotor and I'm completely fine with it. For $350 (if you can still find that), the kit is a bargain to get dual-piston calipers and 13" rotors. I didn't have that set up long before I swapped axles. The new front axle has the TF rotors on it and I was forced to stick with em due to 5x5.5 lug pattern and 4" center bore for the hubs. I did keep the Crown calipers though as they 13.3" rotor still fit in em.

I would agree that the rear pads wear 2-3x faster than the fronts. I've just figured OP needed new rotors due to wear.
