I'm not totally sold on weight being that huge of a factor. Especially on highway.

Every 1 pound of rotational weight is equal to 10 pounds of cargo weight. So 13 pounds per tire times four equals 52. Or the equivalent of 520 pounds riding shotgun. I can provide a link to Wikipedia if you would like to read up on it.

I've heard that a lot and it makes sense that wheel/tire weight has an exponential impact but just saying 10 pounds sounds like some fuzzy physics. Hit me with the links.

Ive been running a set of bfg kos 285/70/17 E rating for almost 4 years. 98% highway. Four tire rotation. 80k+ miles and still have 20% tread. Replacing them very soon. I would keep running them, but i want fresh tread for the michigan winter. Awesome tire, except the E rating makes for a bit of a stiff ride. 40 to 45 psi cold. Awesome in all conditions and mild wheeling. But not for rocks or deep mud.

i'm in a similar situation as far as how often i drive it off road... i did a TON of research and finally chose the Goodyear Duratrac's 285/70/17

only had them a month and only went off road once but they were fantastic and i was really impressed with the performance vs the factory crappy ones, but i suppose most anything would be better than that.

on the road they behave really well, my wife can't tell the difference drive/soundwise
