Bestop tire carrier trouble?
Anyboy with the Bestop HighRock 4X4 Oversize Tire Carrier and at least 35" tires had any problems? How long have you had it and how much off road has it seen? A local shop does not recommend it (would not sell it and would not install it) because they've seen it crack the door body or something. But featurewise I like them best.
What other options are there for mounting on door? A new bumper with tire rack is just too expensive. I am planning to mount 35" tires.
Here are all the options I've found:
- Bestop HighRock 4X4 Oversize Tire Carrier (relocates brake light, fits up to 37s) ~$230
- Smittybilt XRC Tire Relocator Bracket (does not relocate brake light, fits up to 35s) ~$50
- Rampage JK Rear Tire Mount Kit (does not relocate brake light, fits up to 35s) ~$130
- Mopar Spare Tire Carrier (tracket for bumper but I thought for factory bumper but think it is for their aftermarket bumper, fits up to 35s) ~$475

Rusts easy, I'll POR 15 it black and sell you mine if you want it. Say $100?

Im planning to smooth my tailgate.

I was researching this today. I have been running a stock size spare thinking that would leg me out of the woods but I was wrong. This weekend I went to service my differentials and found the Rubicon has TRU-Lock axles that work alot like limited slip axle, so if I had put a smaller spare on I would have smoked the gears in no time. So today I found a almost new Goodyear MTR for $75.00 and am looking at installing this - KMA Fab. plate to rise up the stock assembly. That should keep the tire so close to the tailgate I won't needed aftermarket spacers.

I thought about this as well, and decided to wait longer and got the ord-Fab tire carrier, it's awesome, and Dave @ northridge had a good price on them!
It's a little more involved, but rock solid, I have no regrets!
Once I get my wheels, I'll post some pics. I did post some about the install in the writeup section.
