I've had a Ramsey 8K for about 18 years now and no issues. don't use it much but has always worked when I needed it. I use the warn receiver hitch mounting system so it stays in my garage out of the weather until I go wheeling/hunting. also with that system it works on my truck or Jeep...front or rear and does't have to be sold with the vehicle. At that time I only compared it to Warm and the Ramsey drew much less amperage than the Warm and was slightly less expensive. I'm sure a lot has changed since then but I would look into them for sure. Good luck.

I've had my Rugged Ridge 8500 for 3 years with no problems...very reliable and half the price of a WARN. Got it from fourwheelparts.com
WARN is good, but IMO your paying for a name brand as there are other very good quality winches out there on the market.

If I were buying new, I would likely go with one of the many good lower priced winches that are available now - but there really is a reason for the reputation that Warn has achieved over the years. The 'winches in hell' article that was mentioned earlier summed it up nicely regarding the general opinion on Warn reliability...
