Default Best way to mask off side skirts?

I have wanted to bedline the strip at the bottom of the doors on the outside for a while now. I have the smittybilt steps and every time i get in, it makes a new scratch and also someone must of kicked it towards the back because there is a tiny dent.

I figure bedlining will cover the dent and look pretty cool

I just placed my order for a raptor liner kit. It should be here Friday, so this is my weekend project.

How should I go about masking this off perfectly straight? I know I will have to take my steps off to begin with but thats easy.

Can I just use something as a guide and lay down a painters tape?

I want to do the area between the steps and the line of the doors

I just bedlined mine last week, and I did the rear of the tub while I was at it. I used painter's tape and covered the rest of the Jeep with plastic drop cloths. It worked well and came out with a very clean line.

Mind snapping a pic or two of the finished work if you have a chance?

Not the greatest photos, but here you go. If I were to do it again, I think I'd go with the roll-on bedliner. The spray on stuff just isn't very thick. As for laying the tape, I just eyeballed it. Sanded with the tape on to make sure I didn't scratch above the line, removed the tape, cleaned it, retaped and masked, then sprayed.

Looks kinda grey in this photo due to the lighting, but it's black.

Is that Raptor Liner or is that dupli-color rattlecan liner?

I am going to do mine all the way to the bottom of the doors.

I used the Rustoleum rattle can stuff. You can't tell from the photos, but the finish is almost identical to the OEM fender flares.

I have a few scuffs under my door from ingress/egress. I am thinking about buying skateboard tape for protection. Not sure...

I'm thinking about using grip tape too, but the one made for steps. I saw where someone on the forum used it for the pinch seam.
