Best coating for jeep parts??
I have NUMEROUS parts on order to FINALLY getting my rig built to the way I want it.... many many parts are coming in bare steel. A good friend of mine has a powder coating business and is willing to do all my parts at next to nothing (few beers and bragging rites!) .... But a few parts that i already have are so durable.... mainly my linexed tub and whatever coating ACE engineering used on my fenders.... is this just textured powder coating??? or is it better to line x the bumpers, flares, etc??? Cuz i know powder coat doesn't peel, but linex apparently can if not done properly.... any info would be greatly appreciated

if you have an option to powder coat everything for a couple of beers, do it. Powder coating looks cleaner in my option and it will look good to match them up to your other powder coated parts. (i know not everyone will agree)

The one thing to be wary of with powdercoating is high wear areas (impacts and gouging). In order to repair the coating you need to remove the part and re-coat it if it gets chipped our scraped off. It will be just fine on your bumpers and such but I wouldn't recommend it for any skid plates and sliders if you plan on putting them to good use. You are better off sticking with paint for those since you can just rattle can them in place after a good day on the trail. if you don't mind the finish looking a little haggard you could have him powdercoat everything and just use brush on (most spray paint won't cure well with the powdercoat) touch-up paint for the chips and scrapes.

If you actually wheel your rig I wouldn't powder coat a single thing. Rattle can is the only way to go since its cheap to redo and touch up as needed. I am a fan of rustoleum products with my current favorite being hammered black although it comes out looking more graphite than anything. I also like the way the Rustoleum primer adheres to steel and especially aluminum.

I am glad this thread came up. I bought a ARB bumper late last year and after the last 6 months it looks like total ass. Looks like it has been on the Jeep for years. Over a grand on the bumper and now I need to pull it and recoat it with something more durable then the paint it comes with. My ACE rockers that I put on a few months before that still looks great.
