Default Best bumper without a tire carrier?

Hey everybody, kinda of a new guy here. I have owned two jk's and recently bought a new 2013 JK Sport and can finally begin to mod it out a bit. I want to toss the plastic bumper and upgrade to something that has some good angles, strong, and won't break the bank. For the time being I am going to go without the bumper and put a couple shackles on the back. However, I don't feel comfortable driving over a long period of time without some added protection in the rear. Just in case, you know? So what do you guys think? Can I find a good bumper for 200-400 bucks? I was looking at the smittybilt tube bumper or maybe the poison spider. Thanks for the advice guys. I am looking forward to learning how to really get into sport

When I wen through the same thought process I ended up with a poison spyder BFH rear bumper. It was only about $150 more than adding shackle hangers to the rear frame. Had it on for about 3 years and no regrets. Be advised, you cut the frame with this bumper so I don't know if you can switch to another one down the road if you change your mind.

Wow, I didn't know that. Ok, I will definitely need to research a bit more before I pull the trigger on a bumper. Thanks!

I'm looking for something similar. So far I'm thinking OR-Fab rock slider bumper. It's like $410

I have the TF hinge. You could always go that rout or ORF or genright after the fact. But good point, plan for the future.

yea the orf and genright are good options too. I have thought bout that route also. I really want a carrier that opens with the rear door though but that's supported by the bumper. I want all weight off the door and hinges.

Also thought bout a non carrier bumper and building the carrier myself. Would save a ton of money and you can design it to your liking. Add it change features about a certain bumper you wouldn't normally consider because you don't like the carrier style they have.

There are bumpers I love but just don't like the carrier design. And there are carriers I like but don't like the bumper it's attached to.

A little more than the OP wants to spend, but I really like my Ace bumper w/o tire carrier (I have the TF hinge). Great departure angle, and you can get it with our without light provisions.
