Thank You. That is exactly what I thought about the the bend, or lack thereof. I suspect those runout amounts might be influenced by any, dirt, rust or even production intolerances on the flange surface. Again visual inspection of the shafts did not reveal any damage to bearings, races, splines which I would suspect would be visible if a bend was significant.

Regardless, it does not seem like it would warrant replacement.

If you measured accurately, I'm thinking the one with 0.030" runout is too much.
That would be quite a lot at the outer diameter of the wheel.
I can't find any specs for the JK flange, though.

Ya I asked Chrysler dealer for any info on run out on the flange...but no help...

I was later informed that the diagnosis was two bent rear axle shafts.
Chrysler dealer said no runout data available...
Interesting... I wonder how they know any of them are bent, especially when it doesn't seem to be obvious.


Could it be the housing, and not the shafts?

I had the same issue on the left rear of mine. It caused a mild squeek. Put some brake anti-squeel on the brake parts at every tire change and you likely won't hear anything. It's definatley not worth spending much money on.

If you run steel wheels you may have a bent rim. that is very common.

Since you have the shafts out, time to upgrade!! Northridge can solve your problem once and for all!

If your flange run out is .030 she is bent. Here is a video of my bent flange. Get superiors from David. If you bend or break them they will replace them.

They used eyeball test, i.e. put up on rack and stare at tires as they rotate. I am trying to confirm, or hopefully, deny their diagnosis. Looks less promising as the days go on.

Possibly but I think the noise from the rear is symptomatic of bent shafts.

I am waffling between you train of thought and just "buckin' up" for chromoly.

How do you know that .03 is out of tolerance, is there a spec somewheres? Thanks for all your responses
