You think that would hurt the strength much? The only feedback I'v gotten about the XHD in a crash was a guy who had a Ram 1500 merge into his Jeep. The XHD impaled the Ram's front quarter panel and only suffered a few scratches.

I don't think it's going to stay on there in an actual head on accident... maybe someone should be the guinea pig It sounds like you want the utmost strength based off of originally wanting to build a massive 1/4" thick bumper, so I'm not sure how a bolt on solution for the ends could be sufficient given your original post. Just a little confused is all.

AEV and ARB make some really nice full width bumpers that I've seen.

If you really need it in a crash ... you want the best that you can afford. I went with ARB front and 1/4" Rock Hard on the rear ...
If you just want a replacement bumper, most any will do ... until the crash happens.
