LIZARD SKIN

It looks pretty thick, which makes sense.I found the part about only wanting to cover it with urethane interesting.

[QUOTE=Rooster76;3214777]I used Raptor Liner and did a thread about it. Total cost with supplies was just under $200. I already had an air compressor. I read every thread I could before pulling the trigger. You best 2 DIY choices are Raptor (needs air compressor) liner or Monstaliner(most commonly rolled on). I love mine and it is super easy to clean with just a wet towel. I have had it rain a couple of times with the back windows out. It's really nice to not have to worry about it. I've also had it super dusty and a bit muddy and it cleaned up in no time.

Prep takes the most time. I would have it all sanded before the weekend your going to spray. Masking takes about 3 hours. Spraying take about another 3 hours. It's 2 coats with an hour between them. After you spray your going to want to have it sit for a day. Then be sort of gentle getting the seats installed and heavy cargo. A couple days would be better. The official instructions say it will be hard after a week. It would be better to line it before it gets too cold.

Pictures of my Jeep Raptor lined

I used a heat gun on this cubby door. It sort of has a bedlined texture after that. I also put a couple coats of liner to finish it. You want to be careful if you do this to work slowly to not get lines in it (like mine below). The liner will not hide uneven texture on the lid.

nice looking job!!! how will it hold up?

Good Luck with what ever you choose. It's defiantly one of the best mods you can do.

RAPTOR OVERSPRAY
The overspray was about like a rattle can or less. Not really all that bad. It doesn't hover in the air. I would put a cover over all the paint anyways, dash, and half way up the roll bar. There is very little chance it would get up by the speaker bar. I would recommend using plastic drop cloths for the big areas. They have them at lowes you can get in 9X12 in 3 packs ($5.50). While I had some plastic to use, I would think about 2 of those 3 packs would cover most of the big areas. Cutting up trash bags would probably work better then tons of newspaper that take a lot of tape to apply.

This is picture after I sprayed. You can see the spray didn't wander too much.

SCUFF PAINT
I used 120 grit sand paper. I tried one of the sponge sand pads and it was trash. I wouldn't use sand paper lower then 100. You don't want to go down to bare metal if you can help it. You want to get rid of all the shiny clear coat and then stop. The factory primer the best surface you can paint on. You can use a higher grit but it will take all day. Another option is to get a red scotch-brite pad. I ended up finding them at Ace hardware after I was done spraying. I used them later when bedlineing my grill and they worked great.

If you do go down to bare metal use one coat of self-etching primer spray. Try to keep it mostly on the metal. The etcher part isn't great on paint.

That's interesting I assumed you had to spray over it. What's the texture like? Do you have any pictures?
Ya I meant raptor haven't done mine yet my buddy has its a two part epoxy. Use a scuffing wheel on your drill to do most of your prep work and a scuffing pad for the tight areas

RAPTOR
LONGEVITY
I've only had my Raptor job in for 2 months. There are several people who have had there's lined with raptor for over a year or two with no signs of wear. There are a few on my show thread link. https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-s...hreads-238739/
TEXTURE
It's very easy to spray and will look very similar to Line-X. I personally think it has the best texture. Spray on liner in general is easier to get a professional consistent look then a roll on like monstaliner. Not that it cannot also be applied very well if you take your time, and have a bit of skill. Raptor a breeze to clean. Where a rustoleum spray can bed liner might require a pressure sprayer. The downside of the raptors hard smooth bumpy texture is that it is not very grippy to keep cargo in place. It's more of a surface protectant. It's thickness is about like 2 credit cards stacked. Maybe a 1/16" or so.
HEAT
I took all the goop (sound/heat crap plastered in the foot wells and above the rear axle) out before spraying. I have noticed once my feet getting warm on a 2 hour drive on a very hot day. Nothing I don't think a bit of ac to the floor wouldn't over come. I originally posted up Lizard Skin on my show thread to overcome this slight down side as a pre-spray. Looks like that wouldn't work from HLKSTER's thread stating not to put bedliner over it. Usually I'm not in my Jeep for much more than an hour and don't notice any heat issues.
SOUND
I just put my hard top on today. I think its a bit more noisy, but it's hard to tell. It's very livable I would say. I can hear the Rubicon (bfg km) tires just a bit. You could have a conversation with no problem. I did notice what sounded like the radio playing through some headphones in the back of my Jeep when going 30+mph. I really thought it was the sub for awhile. Then I realized that it was the rear differential noise. It's quaint and you would not be able to hear it unless your radio is off and window up.

LIZARD SKIN
HLKSTER's post is the first time I have ever seen anyone Lizard Skin their Jeep. I did hours of seaching reviews before spraying mine and it never popped up. It's hard to say how well it will hold up being so little on the internet about it. They advertise that it's up for the job so it is worth considering. I looked on the Lizard Skin web page and it says that it will work with or without carpet. LIZARD SKIN LINK->Off Road Vehicles : Lizardskin. It looks much thicker then Raptor. If you did both sound and ceramic heat insulation it would cost about $100+ more. Plus I would personally paint it black and add the protective coating $$$. That would up the cost some more. It does look like it would have a nice surface for quickly cleaning up. The heat and sound issues I have are very slight so I would assume this would totally get rid of those.

MONSTALINER- doesn't get many post on this forum. It was my close second choice. There is another "Jeep Forum" that has loads of people who have used it. I have only hear good things when searching. If you google it you could get some long term reports on it.

All the above mentioned liners are advertised as being UV safe.

Default Lizard Skin

The Lizard skin when its finished is black. The sound control is grey in color but the ceramic barrier that comes after is black. It seems very durable easy to clean and again I am amazed with the difference in interior sound and heat. I am looking forward to spraying inside my doors for the final touch. I will see if I have a pic of the finished interior. If you look at the pics of the hardtop that are posted that is the black color of the Lizard Skin...On a side note the Urethane is what Lizard Skin recommended I use to top coat there product for a little more durability.. They mentioned that people have used other products to go over the Lizard skin but then it effects the efficiency of the ceramic coat.
