Default beadlocks... why only one ring?

I was looking at all the beadlock rims out there, and obviously they work the way they are made so it's not a problem, but I was curious why they only have a locking ring on the outside? Wouldn't the tire be gauranteed to never ever come off the rim if they had a locking ring on the inside as well?

That is why Staun has internal bead locks. They hold both sides of the tire on the rim.

If you look for "real" hardcore beadlocks, they do have beadlocks on both sides.

Try "Marsh Racing Wheels".

i think the reason is, and i'm no expert, but this is my guess at least: is that the reason a tire comes off the bead when aired down so much, is because, at such low pressure, there isn't enough air to keep the bead tight in place, and under certain circumstances the bead or tire actually begins to spin around the rim and then that allows it to spin out of place and deflate. By keeping even just one side clamped in place, it keeps the entire tire from rotating thereby preventing it from moving on the rim and deflating

The main reason is that the outer bead is the one most commonly lost but on top of that, an inside beadlock would normally cause interference problems with rotor, calipers, brake hoses, etc.

The more I look at these, the more I want a set.

Thank-you everyone. Very cool. Interesting responses, all the answers seemed fairly logical.

All correct.

The reason 99% of the time the outter bead is the lost bead is because of lateral loading and weight tranfer.

It is extremely rare to loose an inner bead. In 20 years of wheeling I have lost the outter multiple times myself, but never seen anyone loose an inner bead.

Hutchinson Makes a beadlock that locks both beads and is DOT approved as seen in the picture below:

Sorry its more of the bumper and the rim is of to the side but its all I have on short notice....

Nice jeep, and nice rim. I had seen those in the stock color (silver, or unfinished). The black is really really good. Painted or powerder coated?
