Default Bantam T3 Trailer Restoration Advice

This is a bit off-topic since it's about a jeep trailer vs a jeep. But, I picked up a 1947 Bantam T3-C trailer (similar to an M416 military trailer for those who aren't familiar) that's in great structural shape.

I'm having it lightly sand-blasted to take off the existing paint and surface rust. But, there will probably be some rust pitting/minor rust left. (I don't want to chance a heavy sandblasting blowing thru the metal flooring -- although it appears pretty solid).

I'm looking for advice what primer/coating/paint to use. Using it for backcountry expeditions ... not for show ... and want to roll the product on vs spray it (don't have an area to do that).

Any advice on what to use that would help prevent rusting and would reasonably survive bouncing it off rocks.

Here's what I'm thinking so far (very open to suggestions/experience):
I considered POR-15 but think that will take to much prep work since all the rust has to be gone first to use that.

May want to give a company called Rust Bullet a look. Different colors/styles, minimal prep, and a patented formula. They are an outfit out of Reno, NV.

Not a commercial, I just met with them yesterday for business and it's a cool product-

Thanks for the response.

Rust Bullet looks like an interesting product that might do the trick. The problem with my other choice, Chassis Saver, is it will discolor/get chalky when exposed to sunlight.

Anything you do will require a good prep of the surface. Paint doesn't like to stick to rust, so it must ALL come off. If you don't remove the rust you will just be redoing it again shortly. After the prep use a self etching primer. You can get this in a rattle can, but it will take many cans to completely cover the entire thing. After the primer you can choose any finish coat. I just completed a Raptor liner project on the inside of my Jeep. Love it. Raptor Liner is an Epoxy finish and the resulting surface is VERY hard and durable. Raptor is a spray on finish, but I did it in my driveway. No paint booth required.

On the outside you could get a local shop to shoot some satin black on it to match your Jeep(Gloss black is more difficult). It shouldn't cost much if you do the prep.

BTW, what kind of hitch did you go with? Are you going to match the wheels and tires to your Jeep?
