Default Axle help

Hey guys so I am going to start building a rear axle but I have a couple of questions.

Ok first this is my plan for the front it's a dana 60 out of a 2001 f250, I have already started building it, it's length is a full with 70in axle.

For the rear I am stuck between building a f250 dana 60 or a gm14 bolt. My eventual plan is to run coil over and 40s with a 5.13 gear and locker.

From what I can find the dana 60 is 67in long and the 14 is 69in long?
What is gonna be better for coil over set up? And what axle will be easier to build?
Do I really need the extra two in of axle in the rear? And if so can I run spacers?

I am going to run a 3link, 8in rock Krawler strech kit on my 2 door I just want to figure out what will be the best rout to go and give me the most available of parts and kits out there

Go with the wider axle if you want to outboard your coil overs and you will want 5.38 gears with 40's and the 6 speed. There is a lot more to it then just trowing on a lift kit and coil overs. Your planned set up and shock length will determine where you need to be on axle width and clearances. Even with 69" wide axles you may need to run spacers or notch the frame for clearance with 12" travel shocks.

Check out Mertz's thread, he is currently do a simular build but with a custom long arm with 16" travel shocks.
My build is a custom double trianulated 4 link stretched to 109" wb with 14" travel 2.0 front and 16" travel 2.0 rear coil overs. I completely deleted the rear section of frame for clearance and I have 68" wide axles with 2" spacers, running a 4.5" back spaced wheel and 40x13.5" MTR/k's.

My front 79 ford 60 is 69.5wms and the rear 14 bolt is 67.5 I ended using 1.5 inch spacers in the rear to match the front track width. I agree that youll want at least 5.38 with 40s.

The 14 bolts come in multiple widths

SRW
(single rear wheel truck)
67.5"

DRW
(dual rear wheel truck)72"3.5"

C&C
(cab and chasis truck)
63.5"3.5" / 0.5"Type B

Van 70"

Here is my axle swap build

I know the 14 bolt is solid, but, you could get a matching sterling and they are stronger than a 60 and will come with the same bolt pattern. Plus you get more ground clearance.
