Question Axle gear question.

I'm planing to put the 4.56 gear from "Superior Gear" my question is: Do I have to change rear & front gears? if yes, do they have to be in the same ratio?

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm no expert in mechanical stuff.

Yes, front + rear need to be the same. This is so that the front AND rear wheels turn at the same speed when in 4x4.

I don't see a problem with that IMO, just wouldn't do that myself and plus the shop doing it might not do one at a time anyway.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You MUST do both at the same time unless you take out your front drive shaft. The front still turns in 2 wheel drive.

They have to be the same, or you will destroy your trasfer case in a matter of minutes.

btw the 4.56s havent been released yet. so far as i can get from vendors, no ETA yet either. so looks like you've got lots of months to save up. they did the write up on them in sept 2007 using Woods jeep. almost a year later & still no word on when (IF) the 4.56s will be released.

G Timmy,
Read the first quote, then your answer. Please explain how this "will destroy your trasfer case in a matter of minutes".

I was under the impression that unless you have lockers locked that the wheels simply spun?
