We used to run something on our race car called an accumulator. It was basically a big overflow tank. Running 3-4 quarts more oil than needed but the pressure would fill up the accu tank while running. When the engine stopped (or lost pressure for some reason) all that cool oil would rush back into the engine and quench the valvetrain and drain down through. It saved a lot of parts and $$$.
