Anyone with or tried 305/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar?? Help!!!
I was looking at getting new tires for my jeep and I have a 2.5 bb from RC.
I really like what I have heard from everyone about the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar. They turn out to be 34.1 size tire. I want to go 35" but I was told that I would have to change some stuff on the jeep or over time it could mess up the suspension or axles. Is this true? Plus with 35" tires it recommends 8.5-11 width rim. With the 305/70/17 it recommends 8-9.5. I have 17X 7.5 rims so it sounds like the 1/2 inch will be ok but 1 inch seams a little much. I know with 35" a little rub can happen on the tail under full flex but with 34.1 should have no rub right? So can anyone help with clearing this up for me or helping me?
The specs for the 35/12.5/17 are 34.8
The specs for 305/70/17 are 34.1
also I have 1.5" wheel spacers....
Thanks

You'll be fine with the 35's, they run pretty true to their advertised size so you might need to do a little fender trimming to keep from rubbing. I'm running mine on an 8" wheel and I've had no issues.
You might want to check the vehicle laws regarding fenders in Germany, when I was in Japan they were very strict on fender coverage and side marker lights.

You should PM Olean NY Jeeper. He has a 3.25 RC lift, stock 3.21 gears, and 34" MTR/K.

I am also thinking about something in this size as well. Might just go up to 35x12.50R17 since it is the same weight and not much bigger than the 34s.

Germany is gay with the laws but they don't really enforce them where i am at. I'm at a us army base so they kinda shrug that off. I will be going to the states soon so its ok for me to be riding around with the tires out for a while. Don't think they would say anything. With the 35" that is what i have been told about rubbing problems, that is why I am asking about the 305/70/17 = 34.1 inch tires. If anyone has them or tried them? Plus with it being about an inch smaller then the 35 would it help with the speed-o not being off so bad and the sluggish performance?
Fender trimming will come later and I am going to do a minor one to keep the lights. pretty much just trim the outside to lose the inner fender. But i am tiring to avoid that till i get back to the states or get the bush-wacker fenders.

I am running non-kevlar MT/Rs in that size on stock rims. I did the following to fit with no lift:
1) Fender Trim (not necessary until going off-road, also probably not necessary with your 2.5" lift)
2) 1.5" Spidertrax spacers.
3) Trim slightly (or remove) underbody tray. Not REALLY necessary, but you will hear rubbing when turning left in reverse if you don't do this.
Because I am a pic whore, here are vanity shots:
p.s. As a bonus, trim or remove the stops on the rear tailgate and you bolt on the spare with no problems.

If you go with one of the tuners (superchips, or whatever) they have a setting they can control where you can change speedo up to a 33" tire size. Set it at that, at you will so close so as not to worry at all.
If you re-gear, that is a whole different ball of wax.
