Default Anyone running 5.38 Gears with Rubicon D44's?

Is there anybody who has 5.38 gears installed on their Rubicon? I went to go finalize the details of my lift kit install today and the shop told me 5.38's don't physically fit inside a Dana 44 that comes stock on the Rubicon. They said its too "deep".

On some previous posts I had finally been conviced to give 5.38's a try since I am going with 37's and pulling a trailer.

First, find another installer. That guy does not know what he is talking about.
As the previous poster stated many JK owners run them including me.
Go for it

RUN AWAY from that place.
Yea, the more I think about it the more I think this is the correct response.
I chose a shop that specilizes in gears and thats all they do. Installing gears is
a specialty. I suggest you have your shop do the lift and then go somewhere else to get the gears done. Just my 2 cents.

True the 5.38's DO fit in the Rubicon D44 the pinion is small and the tooth contact is minimal. That said I might have tried it but was talked out of it by two of the more knowledgeable driveshaft & gear shops locally. The thought was that with hard wheeling they are bound to break.

I know Eddie (WOL) is running 5.38's and even though he's got a front D60 the rear is still the stock Rubicon D44. Maybe he'll chime in.

Well, I've been told they are the best shop in Denver (HCP4x4) and so far have been real happy with their advice and knowlege. I just called them back and challenged them on the gear issue, they called Yukon and found out that they DO make the 5.38's for the JK D44. The claimed it was Yukon's fault for not keeping them informed. Oh well, its a changing marketplace every day, I guess you can't know eveything!

Don't use that shop then!!! I was offered a choice of 5.13s or 5.38s for my Rubicon when I changed my gears. I went with 5.13s though.

We have installed a few and sold a ton of 5.38's and they work great.

We have them in stock if you are interested.

Not saying that it would but saying that's what I was told.
