Anyone running 35s on stock gears...

First off, wishing all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
A day or so ago I said I would create an OD off gear chart. It's not perfect, was thrown together quickly but gets the point across. By no means is this an optimal solution! It's a solution to keep your head above water and set expectations on what comes of a tire size change without re-gearing. There are lots of negatives about going this direction and my best advice is this should serve as a stop gap until you get appropriate gears.

I only read the first few posts so if this is asked/answered later, my apologies..
If you have an auto, it sucks to have 35's with stock gears.
If your manual, you can probably make do. But I have no experience on that.
I have auto, 35's and 5.13's. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Hayden, I've had my 35's on for about 10 months. I've got an Unlimited Sahara 6-speed with the 3.21 gears. For quite a while I was happy but I started to realize the things that make this set up horrible... 1) The Jeep rolls along too quickly at idle. Pain in the arse in traffic. 2) So little power when starting in first that it stalls in snow, etc. unless really gassing it and clutching it and 3) I was stopped on a very steep driveway last week and decided to pull further up... I felt like I was just learning to drive a stick (I've had stick for 20 yrs), I don't remember that burning clutch smell since highschool.
Hope this helps. I'm soon going to regear to 5.13's. I'm finally tired of the lack of balls and near stalls when feathering the clutch like I've done my whole life in the same scenarios.

I have a 2010 2 door Sport... 35's are fine with stock gears. If you want a race car, buy a race car. If you want a jeep, buy a jeep. They will never be the same. This is from a guy who is used to driving Hemi-powered cars.

I ran a set of 35x12.50x17 Baja Claws on my stock wheels for awhile. It was great to me, no issues on the highway. 6-speed and stock 4.10s. Just got the HEAVY 18x9.5" PSC beadlocks installed with 35x12.50x18 Nitto Mud Grapplers, TOTALLY different story. No power on the highway at 65+, my hwy fuel economy dropped from mid 18s to high 15s in 6th at 70-75mph. No guts at all. Def going to go with 4.88s or 5.13s. I do alot of hwy driving so Ill prob go 4.88s since I dont plan on going to bigger tires anytime soon(knock on wood). So with a heavier wheel tire combo, youll notice the effects alot more.

1 guy in 2008, that was initially upset that 5.13s and 35s felt like stock gears and stock tires.
But then, he changed his mind:
He has an automatic. 5.38s are preferred for an automatic. Or a Superchips would have given him the extra horsepower.
This was a pretty steep grade that was the primary issue if his rig was downshifting from 3rd to 2nd with 5.13s and 35s.
So, I still say that he ended up happy with the regear--other than needing an extra 10 horsepower, which 5.38s or a Superchips would have given him.
And, in case there is someone not following it, the poll is currently:
EDIT:
Currrently, 37-0 of eligible voters (people who had actually regeared and had a valid basis for comparison) said that regearing was worth the expense.
In fact, most of them that have posted said it was the best modification they had ever done.

Let me say again, I am 100% happy with my 4.10's and 35's.
I will say it ONE MORE TIME... Get them try it, and see if you need them. Easy.
Oh and there was a more recent thread on gears and not being happy, but I couldn't find it.

I have 35s, 6-speed, on 3.21s. It's DOGSHIT. I don't use 5th or 6th. I have no power on 5th or 6th on the highway. Setting the cruise control, I need to be on 4th gear until 70ish. 4L, it does bog down, stalled a few times on the big stuff. I'm going 4.88s soon.
