Default anyone regret hacking the flenders???

I am thinking about doing the Fender chop this weekend, but since it cannot be undone once done I want to make sure I am not making a mistake. Anyone hack theirs and wish they hadn't done it? Or wish they had done it differently? I am thinking about hacking them close like Planman did.

I think anyone that has hacked them is happy with it. Worst case scenario, you wait and find a replacement set in the For Sale section. There are always a new set popping up, sometimes as Freebies.

I am in the same boat as you. I want to do the chop, but don't want to be stuck with it if I don't like it. So I am picking up a set of take offs from another member who went to flat fenders. This way I can do the chop and go back to stock if I don't like it.

Certainly not, and used un-hacked replacement sets from the For Sale section have sold for low prices, so go for it.

To be cautious keep them wide at first and only chop off the vertical overhanging plastic, then run it for a few days, if that's not enough you've got more plastic to play with and shape. Don't glue the beading edge on till completely finished cutting.

Only regret is that I chopped a little too much of the inner fender on the first rear one I cut. I kept the inner pants to keep rain and slush away.

ya, I didn;t think a bunch of guys would be regretting it... but I don't want to overlook something and then wish I had thought it out better. You guys mind showing me what ya got?

Planman, I think I am going to copy you, cause I like yours best so far. How wide are yours at the top?

I love it.

I don't rip them off anymore at full flex. I got to bolt them on with grade 8s and they don't go ANYWHERE. I've deflected them A LOT against trees, NOTHING.

The only thing I regret is not doing it AFTER I get 35s. At 3.25" front and 2.5" rear with 33" tires, there's a bit of room even at full flex. When I get 35s, it'll be PERFECT.

bigbluejk, wish you lived closer because I too am planning on doing this mod this weekend. We could have a few beers and do some cuttin'. I have an idea of what I want to do, but am having trouble finding the plastic edging that some have put on the ends.

Also what did some of you use to cut them with?
