Default Anyone with a PSC system.

About a month ago I installed the SK-255 on my '07 JK. The system works perfectly (bled correctly...no spitting or leaks) but the reservoir seems kinda hot. I bought a non-contact thermometer yesterday to gather temp. data. Here's what I got.

Ambient temp: 68*F
Cylinder temp: 110*F
Top radiator hose: 185*F
Reservoir outside: 189*F
Fluid in reservoir: 215*F
Pump at high press. output: 220*F

This was after @15 miles of ON ROAD driving (never exceeded 55MPH). Anyone with a PSC system running a cooler? What type? Mfg.(Derale, B&M, Flex-a-Lite, or)? Where'd ya mount it?

Thanks in advance!

I cant help you with your temps as to whether or not they are ok but I can tell you where and what I mounted as a cooler and that is the Derale mounted on a couple of tabs I welded on to the frame cross piece that runs in front of the radiator. Obviously just pulled the grill and welded the tabs then mounted it.

Default Derale cooler

I was faced with the same problem, the first week with my PSC ram assist everything seemed fine. Then I took a road trip with lots of long hwy climbs from AZ into CO. Ended up burning up the bearings in my pump. Called PSC, they replaced the pump under warranty, but I also ordered a Derale "heat sink" style cooler to help cool the fluid and pump. Simple install just like "CTNEDGE" says, mounted the cooler on lower crossbar behind front grill and in front of radiator. I have been out in the rocks crawling, hwy driving, driving in stop and go Phoenix traffic, no problems now.

Edit: PSC customer service was outstanding, the replacement pump arrived in about 3 days, and the cooler was also ordered from their website and came as a kit (I had not made that clear in the original posting).

Good info. My tax refund is buying a PSC kit since my stock pump failed.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll go with the Derale 13253 heat sink type cooler mounted on that cross member in front of the radiator. It's kind of a PITA to get my grill off (Mopar OR front bumper with Warn winch) but that seems like an ideal location.

Good call on the cooler, cheap insurance! Same one I'm running, it still leaves room for aftermarket trans cooler too! My next mod

Default Where in the heck

did anyone installing ANY type of cooler tap into the return line?? I mean the return hose from the gear is only a few inches long then changes to a steel line running along the bottom of the cross member where I plan on mounting this Derale 13253 cooler. I suppose ya could crank down on a hose clamp (or 2) after cutting into this steel tube line but PSC says the pressure in that line could run to 300 PSI. A barb fitting would give me a better feeling but the area around that gear is very tight to deal with. Any tips/solutions/pic's will be GREATLY appreciated.

Mike, when I PM'd you back I failed to mention that, NO- I did not cut into any steel lines. Unfortunately, I did my cooler install at home after Offroad Evolution did my ram assist install, so I can't say for certain what the routing of the factory lines looked like prior to the ram assist install. It does not look like EVO added any new lines, but only used the existing factory lines and did not modify any of the hardline/steel tubing portions. Also, EVO does mount the reservoir in a different spot than the kit instructs you too....I think. I have attached the only photo I have of the location of my fluid reservoir, which is mounted to a metal shaft that is welded to a cross brace below and behind the radiator. The top of the shaft has a flat, crescent shaped plate at the top and the reservoir mounting bracket bolts to that. I am not saying you will do this but....I started to rush the job, so when tightening the aluminum reservoir bracket to/around the reservoir itself, take your time, go slow and tighten each little Allen bolt evenly, one side just a bit then the other side, etc. I over tightened one side and stripped out the female threads on the bracket, PSC got another $13 of mine for a replacement. But the thing showed up in three days and I am wiser. I added loc-tite on the second attempt so I did not feel the need to gorilla grip the damn thing. PM me again if you need anymore advice on what not to do, I can definitely help there. But PM me if you need anything else too.
