These seem like a good thing to have in Orwellian states liks Massachusetts, but I have never seen or heard of them in use, so wondering what people's opinions are.
I just know Shrockworks will be calling soon to take my order
, but I'm afraid to get a stubby rear bumper unless I do something like this. Your thoughts?

I just stated I hated them. he asked for an opinion and I gave one... Didnt say anything about having to have them, he stated he was getting a mid width bumper and was concerned. That was my opinion. they are required, but I just dont think they look right. My opinion. But for safety and properly following the guidlines of the state, Yes we all have to have them......
In California, here is a law for mud flaps. California Vehicle Code (CVC) 27600
No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be AT LEAST AS WIDE AS THE TIRE TREAD. This section does not apply to those vehicles exempt from registration, trailers and semitrailers having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds, or any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds.
So as you can see in Ca. they are required and It is not the size of the tire that regulates the addition of mudflaps.
