Default Anyone with 33's & 4.88 gearing?

I was going to wait until Superior begins shipping their 4.56 gear set, but what the heck! maybe I'll do it now and go 4.88's in my 6 speed two-door.

Anyone with this set-up? Any regrets?

Thanks in advance!

I would think your engine will be screaming with 33" and 4.88. I think superior posted an excel gear calculation sheet a while back. You might want to do that first to make sure

It doesn't look too bad... I put together a calculator to play 'what if' with different gearing, tire sizes, etc. (see below)

Still, I'd really like the benefit of someone else's experience!

I have 33's and 4:10's - I couldn't imagine anything lower. I can turn off ESP and still bark the tires (nothing to be proud of, just making a point)
At 70-75mph I think I'm somewhere around 2000rpm.

I've got a 4 door standard and am running 33's with 4:88's.

I went from 3:21s to 4:88's.

I went this route because I plan on getting 35's at some point in time and didn't want to regear again.

Wheelin' it is awesome...I have a lot more low end tourque...

Gas mileage isn't as bad as I thought it would be...I am getting 15 mpg around town and 14 on the highway. But, the max I feel comfortable cruising at is 75 which is about 3100 rpms.

I've had this set up for about 3 months now and traveled about 5000 miles. I've taken it out on 2 8+ hour trips on the highway.

Hope this helps...

In addition to my JK I have a TJ. My TJ is currently set up with 4.88s and 33s. I hate driving the TJ on the freeway. It screams and reminds me everytime that it is time to get the 35s put on. I would highly recommend not doing it.

Default no high speed jeep for me

If you need to run 70+ mph in a Wrangler and DD it on the freeways, I'd keep the gearing low(4.56:1 tops w/33's). If you don't mind driving a little slower on the freeway and want a little more power to the wheels for wheel'n, go w/4.88's. Or, if you're like me and your Jeep is not a DD (my DD is a Peterbilt) or you dont care how slow you go on the freeway and want exelent power transfer to the wheels go w/5.13's.........just stay in the right lane on the freeways or you might get run over.

In my case, when I can get the $ together for mods I'll be running 35's and a minimum of 5.13 or 5.38 gearing. Maybe higher.

p.s. Those of you that really use your off-road tires off-road alot. Carefull with the speed, OK. I'd hate to find out anyone on here killed their Jeep or themselves and or a family member because a steer tire blew apart doing 80+ mph and they high speed rolled it.
