Any ideas on how to seal stock Air intake

On a serious note... I raised my intake about 10.5 inches.... its called going to 37's and a TF 6" LA lift.
AEV snorkels cost less, but RR's are made in the USA and nicer. It will be my January present to myself.
oh yeah, and BTW, I think the people hydrolocking their engines are using CAI (cold air intakes) not stock.

I drilled holes in my stock intake box before i read about all the people hydrolocking their engines. The sound is awesome but i got my jeep stuck in the mud for two days and when i was leaving the area i had to hit the last mudhole to keep from getting stuck again and sure enough got an intake box full of water. I killed the engine as soon as i saw what happened. Popped the hood and the box was full of mud and the filter looked like used toilet paper. I started the engine after i did all that and it sputtered at first then fired right up. I floored it to get the rpms up and i suppose "burn out" the water. Knock on wood it runs perfect. Has anyone else noticed the rev limiter on our engines? Oh yeah moral of the story buy a snorkel.

A snorkle is the best option from a safety standpoint. Beyond that, stay out of deep water (and always check it first), and keep your speed down and you should have no worries.

To the OP, dude, it's a Jeep, not a submarine. Keep it within the limits of your rig or risk breakin somethin expensive.
copy?

Not at all. Look at the design of the stock airbox (which the snorkel plugs into) it can collect a SMALL amount of water and allow it to drain out before it reaches the actual air intake. It's totally flooding the airbox or using an open filter CAI that get's folks into trouble. And yes, the head of the snorkel is designed to withstand rain. As I mentioned before, if you plan on deep water fording with full utilization of a snorkel you better extend your diff breathers as well. That is unless you want to constantly trash your gears/axles. Oh and transfer case & transmission breathers also.
That said; if you can't afford a snorkel, you can still go off road. Just stay out the deep water.

On a serious note, after reading the stories here I ditched my CAI and saved my pennies for a snorkel. Had the AEV sitting in my garage for about 2 weeks with no time to install. Hopefully this weekend.
