Default Another death wobble question.

So about 4 months ago I installed a 4" lift on my JK wrangler and haven't had any issues in the past, until this weekend. Half way through my trip on the highway (@ 70MPH) I started to get death wobbles in the front end.

I pulled in to the nearest town and had the wheels re-balanced and made sure everything was tight although it happened again.

The only other thing I noticed after that was the lock nut for the hemi joint on the front adjustable track bar wasn't tight, so there was a minimal amount of give between the track bar and the hemi joint. I tightened this up and continued although didn't go above 50MPH, because I didn't want to do any damage.

After reading through other threads it seams a loose track bar is most often the problem, but apart from the loose lock nut the two ends of the track bar are nice and tight, with no give. I was just wondering if this small amount of play on the adjustable sleeve could be enough to cause the death wobbles or are there other parts of the steering and suspension I should be looking at?

Probably, yes. Once the shake starts it is violent enough to rock everything in your front end.

However I would still check everything out under Planman's thread about death wobble.

Like Andrew said x 2, This jeep loves the torque wrench. I have and would suggest puttin a torque wrench on all the suspension and steering stuff under the jeep http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-write-...orque-settings
Also those ball joints might not seem worn but it is worth it to pick up a set of H.D. Ball joints and replace them. I've jus been through all this DW stuff and it will drive ya crazy untill ya get er figured out.

Had this same problem all the bold seemed tight on the track bar with a wrench with no play. So I decided to get a nice long torque wrench for the auto parts store for a little more leverage and set it for 125 I believe (you'd have to look it up) found the one on the passenger was tight not just tight enough. 5000 miles later no issues at all.

Same thing here,,, people just don't understand,,, that stuff has to be to spec. I hit everything under there to spec and got some on most stuff. Drives like a brand new jeep now.

I think I have fixed mine for the second time. Along with all the stuff written about the DW, I have found out that jeep does not like tires with low tread. The first time with DW was total stock and I thought the jeep was just dismantling itself. I found one of the sway bar link nuts had worked loose and the tires were low on tread. I replaced both links and all 4 tires, fixed the DW. Put a BB on and the DW returned. I installed an adjustable trackbar, replaced the nuts and bolts with 9/16 grade 8 and added grade 8 washers. Torques them down to 125 and replaced the tires again. As of yesterday, no DW. My jeep loves gas and tires in that order, but I still love the jeep, 07 sahara with about 98,000. Going strong, replaced rear brakes last month, replaced front seal last month, does not use oil.

How hard were the front seals?

Not hard if you have the tools. Need a harmonic balancer remover.

had same issue. Jam nut on heim at axle end was not tight. Smallest of play, but even after tightening jam nut you could tell that there was some play between heim and track bar internal threads. Once I replaced track bar, death wobble has gone away for good
