Another crappy "what tire should I get " thread
Hi guys,
Been a while since I've posted, but I could use some opinions.
I'm due for new tires, 315/75/16. I now have the Duratracs with 70k +miles on them. They have been great on road but I'm in the mood for something different. My first set of 35's were the Cepek FCII, Which were better off road than the GY but were a bit harsh on road.
So, for my next set I have it narrowed down to the Cooper st maxx and Cepek FC. Cooper makes the Cepek and they are probably the same tire underneath the different tread. Why do I want the Cepeks? I don't know, I like the look, name and that they are not seen often, and they are good too.
I got a quote for a little over $1200 for the Coopers from Discount and the Cepeks are $135 cheaper from a Tire Rack installer. Both places are on the same street too.
Why not the Duras again? No reason other than wanting something different, that might prove to be a foolish mistake though as they are really good.
Anyway, thanks!

You thought the Cepek FCIIs were more off road capable than your Duratracs? That is interesting, because I haven't had Duratracs, but I have had a set of Cepek FCIIs, and I thought they were some of the least off road capable tires I've had in a long time, but that they were really really nice on road. But then again, I typically run mud terrain tires.
I'm not sure I would purchase either of the tires you mention. Maybe take a look at the Toyo Open Country RT tires if you are sure you want an all terrain tire. Either that, or try the Cooper st maxx; at least its different than the Cepeks.

if you can wait until spring I would look at the BFG KO2 4wd.com has them for dirt cheap $217 a tire plus a discount of another $50 when you get 4 or 5 during black Friday.

The other brands of course make great tires too, but like many things we buy, we just like them for some reason, why else would someone buy a Ford? 😆
