Another 4.10 vs 4.56 question
#43
With 35"s, the 4.88 won't get you over an obstacle which you can't handle with 4.56.
The 4.88 is for larger wheels, around 38~40".
It also causes much more stress on the drive-train, so it asks for stronger axles, etc'.
The step in the picture on the left was pretty steep and tall. I had to lift the air springs to about 8" (eight) just to have enough ground clearance, and it still scratched the right side rock slider.
That was my previous Jeep, with 32"s, 200hp 3.8L and 3.73 gearing. In low, the Jeep got over it relatively easily on the first attempt.
It would have been easier with the Jeep I now have -- 35"s, 4.1 gearing and 3.6L.
Although - at the wheels - the gear ratio is about the same, the Pentastar gives more torque and 40% more hp.
So, I don't buy the "lack of power" of the 285hp 3.6L.
Use the gas/brakes/steering correctly, in the optimal gear, in Low when necessary, and it does what you ask it to do.
4.56 give extra 10% which I don't lack, but is fine for those who want it.
