Default Allignment + Tire Pressure sensor ?

Getting a 2.5" SJ lift next week and rolling on the stock wheels/tires for a few days following.

I am curious if I will have to reallign after adding 35s?

Have the majority kept the original tire pressure sensors on the new shoes?

Has anyone scrapped the sensors?

I was given a line about there being a law to have the sensor in place if vehicle is originally equipped???

You should align the Jeep after a lift and recenter the steering wheel if needed. Many people have left the sensors out but it seems eventually you will get a warning light and chime. The law says the vehicle must be sold with the TPS system. I heard a dealer can't disable it because it's a safety feature. I'm not sure what, if anything could be done to an owner for disabling or removing the system. I could see it becoming something checked if your state does inspections. I know in Jersey you could fail for a warning light... I guess the TPS warnng light being on could actually make you fail inspection.

yes, due to changes in the contact patch of the tire, you do need to realign.

A few days shouldn't hurt your stock tires too much if you want to get it aligned only once. Just keep your driving to a minimum before you get it done. If you know you are going to drive it a lot for those few days have it done twice. As for the sensors. Davidwm71 is correct that the dealer can't disable the system, some tire shops, like ours are leaning toward not disabling it as well but no policy has been written for our stores yet. We will however, explain the importance of the system.

Your sensors should be able to be moved to your new wheels. If you plan on running low pressure, (many, many, many of you will) I have heard there is a low pressure sensor on the market. I haven’t had a chance to research it so if anyone has information please PM me. I will look into making it available through Discount Tire Direct.

I might be misinformed but I was under the impression with a lift as small as this one [2.5"] a front end alignment is not necessary... correct me if I am wrong.

true, it is not the lift that causes the need for alignment, it's the contact patch of the tire. since the 35's are wider and on a different center as the smaller tire, that is why the alignment is need. but true, a lift with the same tires and rims would not need alignment. but a few days driving wont hurt it.

from reading different posts how would you align the front end for the bigger tires? from what i have read the only way to really align front end is to change out control arms... correct? i am thinking about 33's w/no lift and just wanted to make sure i was not under the wrong impression

Lift is tomorrow....let's see what, if any allignment is needed besides centering the steering. If anyone was wondering like I was....you can reuse the stock sensors. I had the tire shop drop all 5 and remount my stock wheels so I could roll over to the shop doing the lift in the AM. Also picked up 315 70R17s BFG ATs on PROCOMP 7105 17x9s for install after the lift. I didn't want to risk driving over on the 35s stock as it looked a bit too tight. I dealt an innocent bystander my stock X wheels and tires for $300 while he stood there waiting for his vehicle.
