Default Air Scoop infront of Windshield

Is there any benefit? Or is this purely cosmetic?

I had one installed to help keep the leaves out of the vent and for the added air flow to the HVAC system. One day I decided to remove it and found even more leaves in there then without it. I also did not notice any gains in airflow to the Heater/AC unit. I had mine installed facing the windshield.

I mounted mine backwards, its not supposed to scoop air in anyway, and leaves wont get there that way. It keeps mud and nasty stagnant water out, which is a problem in Virginia. Cheap and effective.

It would be great if there were some sort of air filter you could add here for dust.

You do have a filter. Its behind the glovebox. Open box, push in on the corners of the box, and pull outward. Its right inside slightly below the knee bolster.

Are you sure you have a cabin filter on your (or anyone else's) '09?

Before you say yes, take a close look, and poke the thing you believe is the filter. I think you'll find it's a hard plastic "recirculate" door.

ronjenx is correct I broke the plastic screen off to find that what I thought was a cabin filter was actually part of the heating system
