Default Air Lift Air Springs -- how do these work?

Just saw the feature on project-jk about the "Air Springs" which appear to be little air bags that you inflate inside your coils.... I'm a little confused about these. Are they basically just glorified bump stop extensions? I may still be interested, just kind of wondering what the principle is behind them. Is anyone running these or similar or have experience with them?

I frequently loadup my rig for multi-day trips, and I've had issues with rubbing w/ my 3" lift and 35's (https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/modified-jk-tech-2/ft-3-35s-rubbing-under-trail-conditions-what-can-i-do-6767/) so these seem interesting, and not too expensive either.

No, they are not glorified bump stop extension but rather a means to allow you to firm up or soften up your coils. Put more air in and you get a coil that's harder to compress. Put less in and your coils will compress more easily. Make sense?
