Damn straight!
My aFe didn't have the shield around it - it had a 3/4 box with rubber around the lower edge. Maybe because I got the one with the dry filter

Anyway, I love it. Getting better mileage, even with the larger tires, and it does have a cool sound. Definitely seat of the pants feeling of better acceleration.

I installed a Banks CAI with a throttle body spacer. Mileage actually went down. No, I do not have a lead foot. In my opinion, a waste of money.

Weird because when I installed my Banks Ram Air went from my 19 average to 21 average.

I would go with k&n. That's what i have, and i chose k&n for their reputation. and another big factor is... They have metal tubing. I've heard stories that the plastic tubing on other intakes could warp and come undone and possibly melt under very hot conditions. with a metal tube you won't have that worry.

I run the K&N CAi and love like you I have always ran the K&N filters and the system was super easy to install and got a little bit more throttle response and a deeper toned sound. I also have the super chips and an MBRP exhaust on my 3.8 her is a youtube video of them together and some pics.Attachment 361536Attachment 361537

I'd been wondering about these systems as well. I'm a very skeptical guy in general (e.g, I never believed in Slick 50, that spray on hair replacement, or fixing a hole in your row boat by using a screen door that had a bunch crap sprayed on it!), so telling me that installing a CAI gives added power, torque, and MPG has me thinking this is one of those "too good to be true" kind of statements my grandmother had always warned me about!

What I'm seeing after researching the different brands out there and they all seem to be the same. The OEM airbox is replaced with a more open looking shrouding that's "heat shielded", and uses a different air filter. This is what supposedly delivers the "cooler" air to the inatke. Yet, it's still drawing the air from effictively the same location (inside the engine compartment) as the OEM air box? How does having a heat shield "cool" the air that's effectively at the same temperature it was while the OEM airbox was installed? Certainly the air temp inside the engine compartment doesn't change unless the ambient temp outside the vehicle has changed.

Also, air should still get heated after it leaves the heat shield and makes it's way up the intake plumbing to the throttle body?

Is it possible that just the changing from one type of filter design to another is what provides any benefits anyone that has installed a CAI system claims to see?
Does the aftermarket air filter provide the same level of filtration as the OEM filter?

K&n and other intake companies have documented graphs that show the performance increase from stock to their product. that says it all. the stock intake is restrictive. what the new intakes mostly do is bring the air to the engine faster, and smoother. the tubing in the engine compartment does get warm and therefore makes the air warm too. But...so does the stock tubing....and the new intake brings that air faster. So its not getting heated as much. the new filter cleans that air good too. not if you get a cheap filter from autozone for $20. but a good filter does an excellent job.
Like i said, the comparison graphs say it all.
