Has anyone installed Lockers? How difficult is it to do? and which ones are best?
Doesn't seem to be to expensive.

Are you looking for selectable locker or automatic? For an auto locker there really is only one good choice and that is a Detroit. For selectable ones there are a couple of choices like the Ox and for a while the Tera Locker (not sure if they still make them), but in my mind there is only one choice and that is the ARB. If you want to get some auto lockers and you DD your rig I'd advise against putting one in the front as it will mess up your handling. You can always get a limited slip... they won't come near the traction gained through a full locker though. As far as install I goes I am not really an expert so I will let someone else handle that.

On another note... are any of these lockers available for the JK? Can the JK D44 use a standard 44 locker? I know a few people who have put ARBs in a JK so I assume no issue (clarification please)?

An auto locker in the front does not mess up your steering on a DD. I ran a full detroit in my TJ for 5 years and never had a problem. If you are off road and are going really slow, it can push and that can be a problem but usually all you need to do is do a 3 point turn and it is fine. I only experienced that a handfull of times. On road you don't even know it is there.

The D30 is supposed to take any D30 locker the D44 does not take anything yet.

Well, you can now order a Locker from the factory as well as the Electronic Front Sway Bar Disconnect. This really pisses me off that DC/Jeep added these later and did not have this as an option initially. That is one reason buying the first model year sucks but at least I have been enjoying my Jeep. I'll just have to trade it in when the V8 comes out I guess... LOL

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS

Thanks Guys. Based on the comments here I take it the standard on the X unlimited is an open Diff? I would have thought on a Jeep a limited slip would be standard, at least thats what the salesman lead me to believe. (big surprise there!) Anyone know what the factory lockers would cost installed from the dealer?

Before you go about spending money on Lockers, go and offroad with it stock.

I think you will be amazed at how well the stock Electronic Brake Lock Diffs work. This system is built into every JK built.

The electronic brake system fooey only works good as long as all the tires are planted or if you aren't in 4 lo. I've hung my tires in the air several times and spun the suspended wheels. That's when I've had to back up and let momentum do the job! Unlimited X open diffs.

Why do you say it doesn't work in 4-lo? I think it does a great job. It's not as good as a locker, but it definately works.

Correct Renegade,..(BLD) does work in 4-LO>..and everybody on here that has had the opportunity to use/wittness how well this system works has nothing but great things to say how well the taction is.

Available for the first time with Jeep Wrangler models are Brake Lock Differentials (BLDs), which are incorporated into the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) algorithm. BLDs apply braking force to an axle's spinning wheel in order to provide an equal amount of torque to each wheel and deliver greater traction for rock-crawling over severe off-road terrain. A separate set of BLD calibrations is designed for off-road operation and automatically activates when driving in 4 Low.
Electronic Stability Program
For the first time in a Wrangler, the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited come standard with Chrysler Group's Electronic Stability Program (ESP) – providing significant benefits in accident-avoidance driving situations. ESP helps the driver maintain vehicle directional stability by applying selective braking and engine control, within the limits of available traction, to maintain the vehicle's intended course. Jeep Wrangler's ESP system includes Hydraulic Brake Assist, Traction Control, Brake Lock Differentials and Electronic Roll Mitigation.

The 2007 Jeep Wrangler's ESP system provides three modes: “full on,” “full off” and “partial on,” with the default mode as “full on” with each engine start. The benefits of ESP's three modes are as follows:

ESP MODE BENEFIT

ON Applies selective braking and engine control to maintain the vehicle's intended course. Full-time ERM and Traction Control are available.

PARTIAL Traction Control is deactivated and ESP operates at a highe rthreshold. Full-time ERM and Brake Lock Differentials are available.

FULL OFF ESP and ERM are turned off. Brake Lock Differentials are available. Ideal for off-road activities where wheel lock-up is desirable.

I tried it again today. I disconnected my swaybar and flexed the jeep over a high stump on a little hill at the conner of my driveway. This hung the right rear and the left front in the air and the the left rear/ right front on the stops. Guess what. The tires in the air were spinning. What am I doing wrong? Oh yeah, I was in 4LO.
