Default Aftermarket Air Filters K&N and AEM

I have never liked K&N because I know for a fact that many if not most of their HP claims are bogus and I don't think they filter very well especially if you do not keep the filter oiled which most people will forget to do. But I just found the AEM dry filter that they call brute force. Does anybody have any direct experience with the AEM product?

I just put an AEM in my JK about a week ago and before that had their model in my TJ. The TJ experience is what led me to put it into my JK. I had the HP gain plus about 2-3 mpg gain. I had a 2.5 Skyjacker lift and 32" tires. Right now my JK is mostly stock but I am working on it. Anyway, there seems to be a split about the AEM here in the forum about whether or not you will actually see any HP gain. I know that since last week, I now have a nice growl at about 2200 RPM. I am sure some more folks will chime in that have had access to more info. There is also a thread somewhere on here where a guy gave actual numbers from a dyno he had borrowed...I think he used K&N. Good Luck!

What research have you done to support your "facts" about K&N? What makes you think that AEM is any better? Because it's dry flow? If people forget to clean the K&N then why would they remember to clean or change the AEM. Just because it doesn't need oil doesn't mean you don't have to take care of it just the same.

Both products are quality and both are good so it truly is 6 of 1 or a half a dozen of the other. I would suggest reading up on the pitfalls of the CAI for the JK before you spend the money, though. I know I won't be installing one on mine.

I believe that most all after-market Air Intakes are going to be better than stock. How much better is always going to be up for debate, and my opinion is that it comes down to splitting hairs. I went with the AEM for one simple difference. You do not have to oil it. I wanted something really easy to clean. The best dirty air filter will not work as well as the worst clean one.

Maybe I'm wrong on this, but I'm not sure Jager is talking about a CAI, just replacement filters.

He mentioned AEM's "Brute Force" intake. That is a CAI.

i was thinking of the drop in filters as well till he mentioned the brute force intake. K&N does have a CAI system for the JK as well as the drop in filter. I went with the drop in K&N personally because A)it'll probably last as long as the jeep, if not longer, provided i keep remembering to clean it and such. and b)because it does give a little more power and gas milage while not having to replace the stock air box. i figured it was a good way to spend $50, and keep the water forging ablities the same then to spend several hundred on a CAI that i'll have to be careful with in the mud and water.

Default true flow

I personally am starting to lean towards the true flow filters but still learning if they are a good filter design. any thoughts

My .02 I like the AEM filters.

Used one on my TJ for years and will be installing one on the JK's as soon as I have a second.
