Default AFE Intake?

Ok, so I've searched in vain to find out any info on this CAI. I think I just got finished reading every thread with "intake" included.

So has anyone installed the AFE CAI or had any experience with them? They are on special right now for $175 with free shipping at a vendor (not sure if they're a sponsor or not; so i won't mention). Thats considerably less than Airaid, AEM, Volant, and K&N. If I get this CAI, am I really gonna see much difference from the other CAI brands?

My thinking is.....that the CAI mod has a mean performance/mileage benefit. and that each CAI probably has a variance pretty close to that mean. so besides the price...are there any concrete numbers (dyno, etc) that show which is truly the best?

I have the AFE Dry CAI on our Rubi and I like it. We've only put about 250 miles since the install, so I'm not sure about mileage increases yet. My Butt-Dyno says a few horses were gained but not much, maybe more once the computer adjusts. It was easy to install and well made. I would think most CAI are similiar in performance gains since they all use fairly similiar designs.

I have used an AFE Proguard 7 CAI Stage 2 on my diesel truck for about 4 years now and I love it! Thats why I didnt hesitate to go AFE again. I've used airaid too and it was very similiar to AFE. My Dad has a K&N on his truck, and I was not impressed by it at all. The tube going from the turbo to the filter had two restrictive bends in it. Not as restrictive as factory, but definitely not as wide open as my AFE. This was on a diesel pickup and not a JK, but its still something to consider when you buy one.

awesome, thanks for the response. i decided to go ahead and get it since i also read some positive notes outside of the forum regarding AFE.

i'm not sure why i thought 4wd.com wasn't a sponsor on the forum, but i just saw that they were. anyway, if anyone is interested in a CAI. 4wd.com has the AFE for about $175 right now. this is with a $25 instant rebate and free shipping. this is only for the AFE CAI though. the AEM and Airaid ones are full price and about $33 to ship. not a bad deal for the AFE.

I got mine with the free shipping and $25 rebate, plus they gave me a $25 gift card. It came to $139. It was from a non sponser, so pm me if you want know. Im not sure if they still have that deal goin on. Although it took 4 weeks to get it, thats why I usually avoid that company.

Edit: I checked, it looks like the $25 gift card thing is done and the rebate isnt there now either.

Thumbs up

I just installed the AFE and there is a much smoother power band with less lag when you hit the gas. I would say it is the biggest bang for your buck performance wise.

I've been wanting a CAI and was ready to buy based on this thread. Just checked 4wd.com, but the AFE model isn't coming up? Or I'm looking in the wrong place. Tried to search the site, no luck. Are they sold out?

Edit: Nevermind, found the Air and Fuel category, it was there, not under engine performance where other CAIs are listed.

Just ordered mine. They are on backorder but should ship in 2-3 weeks.

Anyone install a throttle body with the aFe? I've never used one so was wondering about the benefits...

I think I know the company, and if it is who I am thinking, I work for them :-P
your gear prolly had to ship from my wharehouse.

Only reason I buy from them is I get a discount for employment, and even then it took 2 weeks to get a hitch I ordered

The JK stuff is pretty new still and there is not a lot of it stocked ATM, least where I work, so a few things may be a tad slow, but with these guys ya never know.
