Default Is a AEV Pro-cal REALLY a must have when running 33's ?

Hi guys, so finally i ordered me a new set of tires ( BFG KM2 285/75r17 ), im gonna mount them on the stock wheels, im going to order some wheel spacers next and possibly an AEV procal, but before i do i just wanted to know if the procal is really that necessary for running 33's ? Will it really be that huge of a difference or is it livable ?

thanks for your input.

I might not have bothered going from my stock 32s to 33s, but definitely for my 35s. It's really dependent upon how much correction you'll need.

It's nice to have. I'd hate knowing my speedo was that far of all the time but that's just my personality.

It does suck that you use it for
2 seconds and it's over with. It's expensive for the amount
Of time it's actually used.

All in all it's handy.

If your originals were the 255/75 KM's then there is only a 5.7% change in indicated speed so at an indicated 55 you are traveling at just over 58 (58.1), and at 70 indicated you are traveling at 74 mph. I didn't use one for mine, and for those times when I'm math challenged i use my GPS or my phone to tell me exactly how fast I am going. I couldn't see the expense for what I got out of it.

PS, add a couple of pics when you have them installed with the spacers, I'm wondering how far they stick out (I got the 33" 10.5" wide KM2s 'cause I wasn't sure) but am going with the 11.5's for the next set - thanks!

I went from the 29ers (or whatever) to 33s. The speedo and odometer were a bit more than 10% off and I liked the tire pressure a bit lower than the stock threshold. I went ahead and bit the bullet for the Procal. That being said...it is not absolutely necessary, unless the speedo being off and the TPS light being on bug you (like me). It didn't change the way it drives in any manner.

While my procal was on order, I ran it without and my auto transmission was shifting at the wrong rpms so I couldn't make it up a hill without physically downshifting...a stick won't matter. I went from stock 32's to 33's that only measured 32.25"...so yes it matters with an automatic.

The KM2's i just ordered are actually right at 34" i just double checked on the specs, im coming off the stock SR-A's, so thats almost a whole two inches bigger in diameter, i guess i am gonna have to bite the bullet and order the freaking procal, i do have a manual tranny which might make it a bit more livable till i get around buying the Pro-cal.
Its not going to kill my wallet but after $1,200 in new rubber and $200 in spacers it sure adds up quick, It sure does suck spending $150 for something you're only going to use two seconds...

My Jeep-Mod savings jar = - $1,550
but its well worth all the pennie pinching to spend it all again...haha

Thanks for all the input guys !

I'll post some pics up soon as i get them installed, i just ordered today so it should take a few days..... i got the 285/75/17 the specs say 11.3"wide 33.9" tall so right under 34", im hoping to get it just right with the spacers without sticking out too far
I wanted to go with the 305/70/17 which were 12.2"wide and 33.9" tall but personally i felt like that was just a bit too much for the stock wheel width, eventhough alot of guys run the 35's which are 12.5"wide with no problem

I was showin 68mph on my speedo, and my GPS shows 70mph. Got my ProCal and reset my tire size. Haven't got on the road with it yet due to a curfew for Hurricane Issac to tell you how it went. I have Goodyear 285/70R17 MT/R's, 32.75" to be exact. Odometer should be on the money now also. IMO, get ya one bro!
